How to choose between 1440p 240 Hz 4K 144 Hz and 1080p 360 Hz based on the games you actually play.

You cannot have all three of high resolution, high refresh and affordable. Pick two.
Match the panel to the games you actually play
Mostly competitive shooters
1080p 360 Hz or 1440p 240 Hz OLED. Motion clarity matters more than pixel count. Aim assist tracking and target acquisition all improve at higher refresh.
Mostly single-player AAA
4K 144 Hz OLED or 1440p 240 Hz. You will notice pixel density and HDR more than the last 60 Hz of refresh.
Mixed / everything
1440p 240 Hz OLED is the 2026 sweet spot. Great in competitive gorgeous in AAA drives fine on a 5070 Ti.
Do not buy a resolution your GPU cannot feed
A 4K 144 Hz monitor with an RTX 4060 is a permanent bottleneck. You will run everything at Medium and DLSS Performance which looks worse than 1440p Ultra. Match the panel to the GPU using the bottleneck calculator.
OLED vs IPS in 2026
OLED wins for contrast motion clarity and HDR. Burn-in on modern QD-OLED panels with the latest pixel-shift firmware is a non-issue for gaming use. IPS still wins on brightness for very sunny rooms.
G-Sync / FreeSync
Every 2026 monitor worth buying supports adaptive sync. Enable it in the driver cap FPS 3 below the max refresh disable in-game V-Sync. That combination eliminates tearing without adding input lag.
