How to Undervolt Your GPU in 2026 (Cooler and Faster)
Step-by-step undervolt guide for RTX and Radeon cards , lower temps quieter fans sometimes higher FPS.

Why undervolting is worth an hour
Modern GPUs ship with voltage curves tuned for the worst silicon in the batch. Your specific card almost certainly needs less voltage than the factory profile. Lower voltage means:
- 5-15 C lower temperatures.
- Quieter fans (or the same noise with higher boost).
- Sometimes higher FPS because the card stays in its boost bin instead of throttling.
- Lower power draw which helps a marginal PSU.
There is no downside if you test properly.
Nvidia , MSI Afterburner method
1. Open MSI Afterburner press Ctrl + F to open the voltage/frequency curve.
2. Note your current boost frequency in a stress test (Furmark or 3DMark Speed Way).
3. In the curve editor click the point at 900 mV drag it up to your target frequency (usually current boost minus 30 MHz for headroom).
4. Flatten every point to the right of 900 mV so they do not exceed the target.
5. Apply. Stress test for 20 minutes. If stable drop 15 MHz and try again until unstable then back off two steps.
A typical RTX 5070 Ti settles around 2820 MHz at 925 mV vs stock 2790 MHz at 1050 mV.
AMD , Adrenalin method
1. Open Adrenalin arrow Performance arrow Tuning arrow Custom.
2. Enable manual GPU tuning.
3. Drop the voltage by 50 mV leave frequency on Auto.
4. Stress test. Drop another 30 mV until unstable then back off 30-50 mV.
RDNA 4 cards typically shave 80-120 mV without any frequency loss.
Testing for stability
Furmark alone is not enough. Use:
- 3DMark Speed Way stress test (20 loops).
- Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark loop for 30 minutes.
- Your two favourite games for an hour each.
If none crash driver-timeout or artifact the profile is good.
Save the profile
Set MSI Afterburner or Adrenalin to load the profile on Windows startup. Otherwise it reverts after every reboot.
FAQ
Does undervolting void warranty? No software-level tuning is not tracked.
Will an undervolt survive a driver update? Yes the profile lives in Afterburner / Adrenalin not the driver.
